How to not be a spammer...

A while ago my yahoo email account started sending spam out of it's own free will. I found out that some idiot out there created a phishing (fake) yahoo sign-in site (apologize to all the tech people if i am not technically accurate in my use of the word "phishing") so the idiot got hold of my password and started spamming everyone on my list.

In case this happens to you, here's what you can do.

1. Put a security seal upon sign-in. When using the same computer, the same seal will always appear so you'll know it's not a fake site.
2. Change your password.
3. Delete your address book. (I did this just to be safe).

Voila. Hope this makes up for the spam!

I'm whining...

Why is it soo cold at home???

I feel sick, tired, achy and i can't seem to get enough rest. What is going on...

I've been telling my body not to fall ill for the last 1 month, and on top of that i've never really recovered from a cough i got from end september. I don't know why this cough lingers, i still get coughing fits that makes me wanna gag.

I've finally resolved my domestic issues by hiring a new nanny whom i think i've trained well enough to fly without me worrying.

But just when i think it's time to enjoy, i think i'm falling sick. There's no justice in this world.

Daily Snippets: He's just not that into you

I just happily clicked on an interesting article written by match.com on 5 reasons why the men don't call you back and I started wondering how many single ladies are still reading my blog, helloooo are you still out there? I'm sharing my dating secrets and you don't want to miss this.

I came up with my own 5 theories of why the men don't call you back. Now mind you i've no diploma in dating but i do speak from personal rejection experiences and have friends who wondered why the men stopped calling.

Sometimes i talk to Mountain Man and ask him why men are such jerks and he'll tell me that men often suffer in silence and take the blame when actually it's the girl who was responsible. Can't expect a man to continue dating a girl he finds out he doesn't like right? How else to let her down gently except to just, stop calling. Of course i told him that an expensive offering such as a handbag or shoes would be effective in taming an angry rejected girl.

Anyway, here's the 5 in order of equal importance.

Reason 1
You have BO or your breath stinks. Sometimes it's simple as that...

Reason 2
You are desperate. Sadly, men like to pursue, not be pursued. And by desperate, i don't mean holding a bowl under your chin to catch your drool. Don't try so hard to impress him because chances are he is already impressed with you tht's why he asked you out. If you asked him out, good for you cos if he agreed to go out with you and in that way he is also impressed.

Reason 3
You are not interested in him. Pay genuine interest in his life- army stories, taekwando championships, xbox games. It's OK if you are not interested in these topics, but be a good listener. Say how you're not into xbox, it is OK to disagree. But don't write off his interests...

Reason 4
You know everything and is right about everything. I think men prefer boring women (who looks pretty) to women who has an opinion about absolutely everything (and looks pretty). If you know everything how can the men add value?

Play the game of the modern damsel in distress so the men get to be the knight in shining armor.

Reason 5
You have no self-awareness. There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance, knowledgable and "talk too much too loud". Know your flaws and try to hide them till date 15.

Good ways of leaving opportunities for future dates is to make them during the date. Like "Hey so you like the chicken wings at East Coast right? Let's go next week!". And if agrees but then he still doesn't call maybe he's just not that into you.

Well good luck single ladies...

Sometimes silence speaks more than words

I used to be one who always want the last say. Make my stand known, bring my point across, argue down to the last minute detail just to prove that i'm right, was always right, and will always be right. Ironically winning the argument doesn't mean you win the situation. In the process i'd get angry, i'd fume, i make others angry, nobody really wins.

Mountain man has taught me a whole lot about conflict resolution. Sometimes keeping quiet says more than actually saying anything. When others expect you to lash out them, there's nothing more deafening than silence. And not saying anything prevents further "mistakes" or hurtful comments, it also gives all parties a chance to get away from the line of fire.

I have made enough people angry in my lifetime, likewise others have made me combust to tears, so now i'm gonna stick to my new method.

Ahya, You dunno la

Remember the year when brit rock ruled? Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Suede all came out at almost the same time. The younger me was happily bopping to 98.7 fm and i 'wooed' when "What's the story morning glory" came on the radio. My brother who is 7 yrs older asked me wht the deal was with the whiney buggers. I was like, ' ahya, you dunno la!".

Then i turned 18, my mother asked me why i had 10 different coloured hairclips pinned to my short crop hair. My answer was straight and simple, "ahya, you dunno la".

"Ahya, you dunno la" was my favourite angsty youth catch phrase. My badge of honour for being young and appreciative of wht's in and hawt (see, paris taught me new spelling).

However, i always knew that one day age will catch up . At some point in the near future i will fail to reinvent myself and resent the way things have become. I will hold on to my youth the same way my mother only listens to Teresa Teng songs.

I didn't know the day would come so soon. So pls pardon me if you're a teenager reading this and u think "ahya, you dunno la" cos nobody "ahya, you dunno la" me you understand?

You know whts worse than chinese new year carols?

It goes something like this:
过新年,umps umps umps 过新年, umps umps 咚咚唱, diu diu diu diu. (a rendition of techno infused chinese new yr carol i heard earlier at the shopping mall).

What the #*%&...

NOKIA RANT

I've decided to buy a Nokia phone for the first time in 10 years. It was fun at first, but i gotta say that i'm slightly disappointed. NO i'm VERY disappointed.

My phone for some weird reason CANNOT input chinese characters. I've spent almost 2 days trying to figure out what was wrong. I jumped through various hoops and still NOTHING.

The nokia website is totally buggy and slow. And the nokia care centre customer service is not only unhelpful, she made things worse! She basically made me RESTORE my factory settings for no rhyme or reason- ie i have to freaking reinstall my personal emails (this is not a big deal) but also my office mail which is so arduous cos company IT has to get permission etc etc etc...Now i have to redownload all my applications- which is still faster than using PC suite to back up the infomation.

Tht still leaves me the problem- how do i input chinese characters? it doesn't make sense that a 100dollar phone can do it and a phone 10 times the price can't!!!!!!!

Dentist chair

One of the happiest moments in life, apart from giving birth, getting married, n being given a huge diamond ring, has to be the moment right after completing a routine dental check-up. When the dentist declares my pearly whites fit to chomp on for another six months. Haaalleeeeluuujaaah...

I am dentaphobic, have been since i was 7. I blame it on my pr school dental nurse. She fixed so many of my cavities at one go without anaesthesia, n she told me tht i had to attend a boot camp to brush my teeth 247 if i wasn't diligent in keeping my teeth clean. Tht left such a huge psychological scar tht i hardly went to the dentist since graduation. The longer the length between each visit, the longer (n more painful) each visit is.
Mountain man on the other hand loves going to the dentist for some psychotic reason. But its One more reason to love him cos ever since i met him, he's forced me to keep my half yearly appts diligently. And true enough, each visit is becoming more n more pleasant! Hee hee. *flashes her healthy pearlies*

Cracked heels and cracked nail

Wearing too many uncovered shoes had really taken a toll on my heels. They were so badly cracked tht the pedicurist had to spend almost 10 minutes exfoliating each heel. Now they are finally nice and smooth again.

To prevent further cracking, i was advised to apply a moisturing treatment (basically any rich moisturiser) and bundle it in cling wrap for 1 hr.

And this is no cracked nail. I was intrigued by this new polish i had to try it on. It's 2 layers... A bottom gold layer, and a top white(or black, blue, red, pink) layer which cracks to reveal the bottom gold layer. And if u wish, u can apply a sparkly topcoat. Despite the many layers, it dries in 5 minutes! cool!

The Definitive Guide to Asian Poses

My mind usually goes blank when it comes to funny poses for the camera. I've been using the same spastic pose the last 10 years (a boring peace sign with a wide idiotic smile). A friend posted this on FB and i feel like i have the moral obligation to share something this good.

I present the Definitive Guide to Asian Poses. For those who wanna act cute but don't know how. like me. harhar.

This i'm gonna use very often. It's called the Nyan Nyan- like the noise a korean cat makes. I didn't know Cats meow differently in korean.

And this is Bang! This is more challenging. U gotta pretend your hand is a gun, pout the lips and blow out the cheeks like a puffer fish. So hard to do all that and be cute at the same time!

i'm my own superhero

Some events have happened recently which led me to conclude that i cannot control my temper and need for an immediate solution to "right" the "wrong". I'm not saying that my standards of right and wrong is universally accepted. I just cannot let go until i do something about it.

It's good for me. It's cathartic. I bitch too much behind people's backs. I used to be the queen of passive aggressive. but now i'm not that anymore. I confront. I speak out. Partly because i think pregnancy has lifted my self-restraints. I feel like i need to get rid of scums and idiots so my(our) baby will live in a better world. I'm dramatising a bit but u get the point.

Take chain mails for example. I don't normally mind chain mails if it's entertaining- silly quizzes and personality tests, funny comics, touching stories... And i don't mind if the consequence of not forwarding a certain chain email to 999 people on my mailbox reads something like "bad sex for 10 years" or "no winning in mahjong for the next 20 rounds".

But last night i received one that crosses the line in my books.

Title reads: SEE PICTURE CAREFULLY
The picture is of this hindu god and goddess looking thing... (i won't post it cos frankly, it's v. eerie looking)

and the message reads something like. " XX ignored this email and 10 days later his son died, YY lost his job. ZZ who forwarded to 13 friends received a promotion..."

so when i read the thing i looked at the picture again to make sure i didn't miss any jokes. and when i realised there were NO jokes, i freaking unleashed my wrath upon the sender, and of course i cced everyone else who was in tht chain mail.

Who sends such malicious emails to friends?

Best still, i looked further at her so called 'friends' who sent her the email, they even dared to sign off with "best regards", or "have a nice day".

Say i over reacted. but i always have the excuse of my hormones raging. convenient eh?

the mystery of astrology

I'm never one to believe in Astrology. I believe in the laws of god. What i am is what god made me.... Chinese however are ardent believers of astrology. They sometimes even hire people or date people based on their star signs. What intrigues me most is, different people have guessed my star sign correctly, after just working with me on one or two projects. Not that i believe in astrology now, but i wanted to know what they thought about me. How can they possibly guess tht i'm a virgo.

OK no need to read everything cos obviously if u're not a virgo u won't be interested. I've bolded some areas for ur interest. areas tht i think are particularly true, but then of course it's not all true. i am not a neat/clean freak. Mountain man will agree.

Virgo Strength Keywords:
- Analytical- Observant- Helpful- Reliable- Precise

Virgo Weakness Keywords:
- Skeptical- Fussy- Inflexible- Cold- Interfering (haha, i am quite kaypoh)

Virgo and Independence:
Virgo is a very independent zodiac sign. They are fully able to put their intelligence to use and get things done for themselves. It is possible however that their narrow mindedness causes their creativity to suffer and they may lead regular routine lives. They may dwell too much on the past and over complicate things and this may limit their ability to move forward and confuse themselves. In conclusion, Virgos are able to be independent but the less evolved types will have difficult if someone is not there helping them to achieve more and not be so critical of themselves.
(Okay this whole paragraph has some truth to it, but i think i'm quite creative lei)

Virgo and Friendship:
People look up to Virgo for friends because they are straight thinkers and solve problems logically. They are truthful, loyal and determined. Some people might find them cold or emotionally detached because they live in their minds, not in their emotions and feelings. It might be hard to pin down how a Virgo friend is feeling because they easily live in denial. A person who is able to read deep into another person will notice when Virgo is not well but if they confront them about it, they would rather retreat then talk about it. It is best to keep your emotional distance from a Virgo friend unless they open up to you first. Virgo might try to analyze and control a friend's life but only with the idea that they will improve their life, not purely for the sake of controlling. Be patient with your Virgo friend and understand that their recommendations are only to make your life better.

(I'm sorry my friends, i can't help being kaypoh)

Virgo and Business:
Virgos are very intelligent, they have an excellent memory and a highly analytical mind. This makes them good investigators and researchers. They also have the ability to probe into a person's emotions and they can often see into people and detect what their motives are. This makes them great policemen or interrogators. Virgos are very good at problem solving, this is what they do best. They are confronted with a problem, they will pick apart the pieces and put it together in the proper order. They are rational thinkers and are good at settling other people's disputes and putting them on the right track for reconciliation. Any position that requires the above features, which is a very long list, is perfect for the Virgo. They keep the world in order.

(i think this is quite true also)

Virgo Temperament:
Before a Virgo plunges into anything, from a problem to a vacation idea, they need to analyze all the facts and know all the details before they plunge in and make a decision. This makes them seem indecisive and slow. Virgo's perception is their reality, more so then other astrology signs. What they believe is what will be, if they have a negative outlook on life, things will present themselves to be negative and they will be very moody and isolated/detached. If they are positive, the same events that occur will be held in a positive light and they will be a pleasant, well adjusted person. A Virgo mind is a very powerful mind and they must have the proper attitude for their life to be happy and successful. Virgo needs to get in touch with their feelings, this is why they usually seem cold or detached. They are very prone of living in denial. They will say the feel okay or everything is alright even when it's not. This is an easy way out, the one thing that Virgo does not like to analyze is their feelings so pretending everything is okay is a good defense mechanism for not having to take a closer look at their feelings. Virgo has an unpredictable and sometimes unstable temperament.

Virgo Deep Inside:
They need to be organized in their mind, sometimes all their energy is taken from organizing their mind that they have a difficult time organizing their surroundings. They easily look too deep into an issue and over analyze what they percept. Virgo is ambitious and strives to always know more and have more. This is in their eternal quest to bring order to chaos. Even if order is obtained from an outsiders' point of view, Virgo will not be settled for they have a very active mind that is always thinking and can never be silenced. Virgos want to be of use, they need to be important and essential to everyone in their lives and in everything they do. Virgo's major life lesson is to learn to trust in and have faith in the unknown. They have to understand that things in life happen for a reason that is not always known to them, they do not have to always know everything. They need to learn to calm down and not over-analyze a situation or event. Deep inside, Virgo is very sensitive and they need to be appreciated for all the things they do. When is Virgo is offended or hurt, they may never show it.

Virgo in a Nutshell:
Virgo exists in the mind, everything is inside. To the world, Virgo presents a calm and collected exterior but on the inside, nervous uncontrolled intensity in the mind, trying to figure things out, how to improve everything, analyzing and thinking. Virgo can tire itself out without even moving! (woah lau, sure or not)Virgo has a constant drive to improve and perfect, this can lead to extreme pickiness and finickiest. They are pure, their motives are honest never malicious and they want to accomplish something.

Virgo Love, Sex and Relationships
What it's like to date a Virgo Woman:
A Virgo woman is earthly and she may seem cold and detached, but underneath the timid, reserved surface lies the real woman, a strong, passionate woman with a great capacity for strong devoted love. She will play hard to get, she is hard to get for she is worried about exposing her emotional vulnerabilities and getting hurt. She requires patience and you will have to court her and work hard to impress her. Once she is in love, it is for the long term. She will be devoted, loyal and make you very happy and even put a little order in your life. Virgo woman is conservative and old fashioned, a typical woman who is perfect for the man who loves a challenge and likes to take a relationship slow.

What it's like to date a Virgo Man:
The Virgo man has a cool exterior with a sensitive interior. He has tremendous respect for a woman and will treat her like and equal. He likes woman who stir his emotions because he is reluctant to express his own emotions, which he tries and this often causes conflict not just inside himself, but it spills out into the relationship. This man takes patience and understanding. He will not get extremely close so do not try to enter his psyche and become closely entangled, this will make him feel threatened. He needs a classy woman who is not impulsive or unconventional. He leads a predictable life and a predictable woman will make him feel safe. He is perfect for the down to earth, conventional woman. He won't be romantic and sweep you off your feet, but he will be by your side and be very loyal. This man's sensuality comes out with time. For the woman who wants a stable, solid relationship with a visible, smooth sailing future is perfect for the Virgo man.

How To Attract Virgo:
Virgos need intellectual stimulation. Impress them with facts and details. Always try to come to conclusions when having a conversation, they do not like topics that go nowhere, they like conversations to come to a close or consensus, even if you agree to disagree. They are very conventional people so do not do anything spontaneous or force them to make a hasty decision, they take their time and think intensely in their mind. They are not slow, their brain is working evaluating everything. Do not attempt to probe inside their mind because their emotions are pretty much closed off until the relationship is solid, and they will decide when that time will be. Virgos are natural worriers, do not let this get to you. Do not give them cause to worry because this makes them get wound up like a spring. Let Virgo take the lead, they like to be in control of what is happening. Keep the date tasteful and do not be vulgar, they like calm and classy surroundings and people.

So pampered!

I barely skipped physio therapy for 1 day and already my right shoulder was giving me problems. The entire small back is really stiff and incredibly uncomfortable. But I'm glad tht i currently don't have migraine anymore. And i wish it won't come back. The bad shoulders really affects the whole body "qi" (energy). I'm so afraid of using up all my energy that i've even quit watching TV. By quitting i mean not more than 2 hrs a day.

So back to my shoulders... i woke up feeling crappy again today. And then suddenly a really good idea came into my head! i shd get one of those Osim iPamper thing. So i jumped out of bed, ran to the living room to look for Mountain Man and told him of my brilliant plan. He didn't even "fight" me for wanting to spend more money, cos frankly i think he's had quite enough of massaging me and hearing me complain of my aches. In fact he said "get changed, let's go get u one of those".

Off we went to the shopping centre next door and got this baby for RMB 980.

I was enjoying it earlier, it really really helps. But it's quite heavy so u'll need to massage ur arms after u massage ur back. haha. thanks mountain man! mmmuuacck!

almost perfect gym day...

I've been on a 2 week medical leave starting 3 days ago. It's not a big deal, just a very bad neck and shoulder ache which resulted in a throbbing migraine that no painkillers can heal. Resting at home can be nice on the first day, sleep and eat and read. but after day 2 it becomes almost painful... it's quite boring sitting on the couch doing nothing.

So anyway, i thought to myself, why not head to the gym! of course nothing strenous tht'd worsen the neck and shoulders, just light cycling to give my energy a boost.

It was a nice day at the gym. i've never been there during the day. The sun shines in and i got a perfect view of the indoor pool at the stationary bikes area. There was this gorgeous pregnant women swimming in her bikini, with her not so nice angmoh husband, and i was reading my new trashy novel "Chasing Harry Winston". Everything was almost perfect.

UNTIL i heard this moaning and groaning behind me....

Gah, Aah, aah, Bah, Jiah, hoa, hoof.... And finally a gasp of Aaaaaah.......... it was really like, vulgarly loud. i turned my head and saw this overtrained middle-aged man who is short and very unattractive, muscular but he still obviously loves his food so there's fats piled on top of his muscles. eew.

And then he went to do every machine and repeated the same aah aah aah sound! my ears were painful by the time i got off my bike. *shudder*
