Congratulations Singapore

I may not be Singaporean, but i've lived there all my life, I married a Singaporean, I gave birth to a Singaporean and one more Singaporean is on his/her way. So I am proud of all Singaporeans who stepped out of their comfort zones and supported the opposition parties yesterday. Worker's Party's historical breakthrough was a testament of how Singapore is truly maturing. Singaporean politicians of today face a tougher job than a decade ago because you no longer vote based on gratitude or fear (or so i hope). It takes so much more to convince you that not any Tom, Dick or Harry can join politics!

I also commend educators, parents, and citizen journalists who've paved the way for a more balanced political discourse. Your perseverance and fearlessness helped to level the playing field so that the opposition could have a voice, so that the common man had a real choice (it rhymes!).

I am not an expert in politics, but I know that a natural monopoly doesn't apply to a government. This is not the end of PAP or the start of it's journey down the slippery slope, but competition and failure will only propel a worthy party to work for the better, and i believe that is what we can expect from hereon- a better future for Singapore.
