That's My McDonalds...

Just had a very satisfying McD cheeseburger with fries lunch. Washed down with mint ice tea. It's a treat i give myself once in a while. Not that i don't eat junk, but McD is different. I eat it when i feel i've been a good girl, or when i need comfort. Everytime i eat McD, a little bit of me becomes a child again. I pop the a fry in my mouth, chew loudly (sometimes with mouth open), and i need to finish a fry in one full sweep no matter how long it is.

McD and i go way back. When i first came to Singapore at the age of 5, i never had McD yet cos indonesia didn't have it then. But i've heard all about the golden arches and was so eager to try this thing that was supposedly like KFC but better- no bones and comes in round shapes. Late Grandpa loved to bring the grandchildren out on weekends, i remember he was the one who gave me my first McD experience. I had milkshake and fries, and i felt instantly cool for having tasted McD.

What i hated about being a kid was that the adults always fed me happy meal, thinking i wanted the toy. I was 5, not 3. I wanted the stuff adults ate. McChicken, or Fillet-O-Fish (but not Big Mac cos that's what big burly men with beer bellies ate). I always struggled to finish a McChicken by myself but i had to show my aunts that i could do it so i'd get the adult stuff. Soon enough, it no longer was a problem.

And later in Primary School. I used to hangout at Toa Payoh McD. I told my sis that i had remedial, but actually i was hanging with my 2 friends, Shiling and Yuling. Because of our McD adventures, i learnt how to take the bus by myself WAY young.

McD then became a totally different place by the time i was in Secondary School. It's my lunch go-to every weds, which was tennis eca day... but then all other school days we still hung out at McD, playing funny games we invented, "studying", daring each other to go order Coney Dogs.

Those were the good days.

I hold on to those memories everytime i eat McD now. And it doesn't matter what it's been rebranded to, my story is my McDonalds...
