All i wanna know about poop...

I have alot of question marks about poop at the moment.

It started with a conversation with friend from Singapore. She told me tht a friend's baby had to be placed in ICU cos he accidentally swallowed poop during birth. The mental picture induced immediate giggles and gagging reflex, but now i can't help thinking that it may happen to T. It's even funnier when i tell u that the name of the baby sounds vaguely like "shitting" but i can't. Or maybe i just did, oh forgive my pregnant brain.

Anyway, i've been blocking out the birthing process for a while. I don't really wanna face the fact tht i'd soon have 20 people staring down at my v-jayjay. Now i gotta face another harsh fact- the 20 people staring down at my v-jayjay are gonna watch me poop as well. Some may have to "catch" my poop. Maaamaaaa.....

So letsay i get past all the mama poop cos i probably won't have to clear it myself. What about baby pee and poop? I'm not talking about just the cleaning, wht if the pee squirts into ur face? I think i'll buy an N95 mask to put on before i change diapers. Is it true that once u become a parent u start developing greater tolerance for gross things? Will i ever be immune to puke, mucus and anything slimey?

Mountain man has openly declared to friends tht he is only gonna start taking care of T once he crosses 3 years old. YA LIKE THAT'S GONNA HAPPEN.

Our friend made a very good suggestion. If i have to handle the input, he better handle the pooput (output)!

Before I gave birth, the nurse gave me some kind of laxative to empty my bowels. So I had the biggest poop ever in my life, and no one saw it. :D

The part about baby swallowing poop in the womb is very real. I had a friend who had to go for emergency c-sect because of this.

Ha, tell mountain man to get ready for lots of output. What 3 years? It's 3 days!

Babe, there's this thing you can buy, i saw it once on Ellen, its like a little cloth cap to place on T pp when you are changing him!!! It'll prevent any pee in th mouth incidences : ) Cool huh? not sure if they have it there? Will keep a look out for you over here...

I miss you!

Baby swallowing their own poop during labour mostly happened for those overdue babies. Usually gynae would advise to go for C-sect. Don't have to worry. As for mum's poop, yes, like yuling said, the nurse will give you something to "induce" your poop to get you read for the labour. So no worries too.

As for handling baby pee and poo, ah, again, no worry, this is what we call mother's (and some father's) instinct - no need to learn, you are already born with it :-)

yuling> so no poop came out when missy came out? How can baby swallow poop while in the womb, i don't get it.

Angie> she's 4-5 years, not 4-5 months. and besides, i didn't enjoy cleaning her poop but i had to!!

jen> when u squeeze the baby out, it's like shitting wht! all in the southern region.

apes> it's called a peeteepee. Miss u too!

Mrs Kam> why overdue babies swallow poop?

When babies are overdue (not all babies though), they already start to produce their own poo while inside mummies' tummy. It's very dangerous cos they might swallow some of their own poo either while still inside the tummy or during the labour. It's not the mummy's poo, it's their own poo. Not that they want to "eat" their own poo, but it's more like they might accidently breath in or swallow it.

My SIL was like that, so she went for emergency C-sect.

Mrs Kam> OH... so it's not tht he accidentally eats my poo. cos tht's just sooo gross.

You saw my post about the pee pee tee pee? that should settle the pee part. just make sure you're alert for any "projectile motion" though, LOL.

as for the poop thing, i recommend using a t-shirt. take the sleeves (it can be a short sleeve T, no problem), wrap it round your face and tie a knot at the back your head, leaving just your eyes exposed (like a ninja). tuck in the dangling body of the shirt into your own top so it doesn't tickle your baby. that should filter out most of the smell.

I'm not trying to be funny here..it works!!

daphne> yes i saw the peepeeteepee... i don't think they sell it here tho. T-shirt is a cool idea... haha. protects the hair too. if not i'll have to wear N95 and shower cap. i shd just buy myself surgery scrubs. haha

Angie> yes, smelly and a few times a day!

AAA> u never really know how to deal with poop just by reading about it. u'll need practice! i'll let u wipe T's ass when there's a chance. haha.
